Assessment

Assessments: At Swigert International School, we use assessments to guide our practice for whole group, small group and individual instructional decisions.  We use a body of evidence in every content area to paint a clear picture of individual student strengths and areas of need.  We not only use standardized assessments, but also create formative and summative assessments to analyze student mastery of IB themes, central ideas, and concepts.  We also use exit tickets on a frequent basis to review student understanding on any given lesson or skill.

ISTATION: Adaptive reading assessment administered on the computer to all students grades K-5. ISTATION measures comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, and phonemic awareness. Students will be assessed three times a year.  Classroom teachers can assess more often based on student need.

ANET:  DPS is partnering with ANET (Achievement Network) in providing math and literacy interim assessments for grades 3-5.  The assessments are tied to common core standards, taken on the computer, and provide individual student data to the teacher within 48 hours.

DRA: Developmental Reading Assessment is a one on one formal longer assessment between the teacher and student. This assessment provides a grade level reading score, fluency measure and comprehension.

Running Record: Less formal assessment with appropriately leveled text to assess fluency and comprehension.

CMAS:  Standardized Assessment given every spring in grades 3-8 to assess math, writing, reading, science and social studies. The social studies assessment is given in fourth grade every three years.  The science assessment is given in fifth grade every year.

Core Phonics Survey: A diagnostic decoding assessment that breaks down words into specific patterns.

Spelling Inventory: Assessing student spelling stage on a continuum based on word patterns in English.
