Dear DPS Families,
We are reaching out to let you know about a change to our Gifted and Talented (GT) testing this year. If your child is in kindergarten, second grade, or sixth grade, this message is for you.
In the past, students in kindergarten, second and sixth grade were automatically tested through a process called Universal Screening. Starting this fall, only first and fifth grade students will be part of this testing process. Kindergarten, second and sixth grade students will no longer be automatically tested. Good news: families can still request testing of their children in these grades.
We understand some families may have been expecting this testing, so we’re offering a specific opt-in process for you to request your child is included in testing this fall.
Please note: Your child is NOT required to take this test. This is an optional testing opportunity that will not negatively impact your child. If you wish to pursue testing at a later time, you are welcome to nominate at a later date. Please visit the GT website for more information.
If you want your child in kindergarten, second or sixth grade to be tested this fall:
Important: If your child is already identified as Highly Gifted and Talented (HGT) or Magnet Eligible (ME), they do not need to take this test again. They have already met the qualifying score this test is designed to measure.
The deadline to submit the opt-in form is Sept. 22.
If you choose to have your child included in this testing, your school’s GT teacher will follow up soon with more details. If you have questions or want additional information, please visit our GT website or talk to your school’s GT teacher.
