Tours and School Choice

Thanks for checking out our school!

Thank you so much for your interest in Swigert International School. We know making Round 1 SchoolChoice decisions is a huge task and we’d love to help you see if Swigert is a great fit for your family! We can’t wait to show you around our school, introduce you to our staff, and let you look at our IB curriculum at work.

Starting in October, we will be hosting tours on Thursdays at 8:30 and 9:30 and on Fridays at 9 & 10. We’ll also have a monthly evening tour offering on a Thursday evening at 6pm.

SchoolChoice Information

To ensure equity, consistency and simplicity in school enrollment, DPS launched the one-application, one-deadline SchoolChoice process over a decade ago. SchoolChoice has become a well-established practice among Denver families.

The SchoolChoice Round 1 open enrollment window for the 2024-25 school year opens at 10 a.m. on Jan. 11 and runs through Feb. 12, 2024 at 4 p.m.

The Round 1 SchoolChoice window for 2024-25 school year opens January 11th-February 12th at 4pm. To participate in SchoolChoice, families submit one SchoolChoice application per student, on which they rank their top schools in order of preference, up to a limit of 12. DPS then uses a computer algorithm that matches students to schools based on those preferences, as well as school admission priorities and available space.

Every school district in Colorado, including DPS, is working with the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) to continue expanding its Early Childhood Education with an enrollment process for Universal Preschool Colorado, also known as (UPK).

UPK ensures that every child, in the year before they are eligible for kindergarten, is eligible for half-day, state-funded, voluntary preschool. 3-year-olds with qualifying factors may be eligible for at least part-time (10 hours-per-week) preschool programming. 4-year-olds with qualifying factors may be eligible for additional hours of tuition-free preschool.

Families applying to enroll in an ECE-3 or ECE-4 program are strongly encouraged to submit a SchoolChoice application during Round 1. Submitting an application during Round 1 of SchoolChoice offers families the best chance of obtaining a seat at their desired preschool program. Round 1 opens at 10 a.m. on Jan. 11 and closes at 4 p.m. on Feb. 12, 2024. Following your DPS SchoolChoice application submitted during Round 1, DPS will reach out to families to provide the next steps for completing an application for funding support through Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado. Visit the DPS Early Childhood Education (ECE) webpage for more information on how to apply!
