As an innovation school we adjust the traditional DPS calendar in a few ways per our innovation plan to provide additional green days for planning. As an IB school our teachers create their own units and those additional days support this important work. We aligned with the majority of the DPS dates; here are the changes and the rationale.
The first two days of school (8.19 and 8.20) are half days with noon dismissal. We use the afternoons to do one on one assessments with students in order to get beginning of year data and provide an opportunity for teachers to spend one on one time with students. We added one green day on the fall break (10.14) for planning and one green day in May (5.2) for planning, end of year conference preparation and class placement process.
