The Eagle Post – January 4th

Posted January 4, 2022

Good afternoon Swigert Families,

We had a wonderful day at school; kids and staff were ready and excited to welcome the new year together. I know covid is on the forefront of your minds and we are navigating another new wave of this pandemic. Right now we are able to cover our staff absence internally and provide consistency for our students. Denver Public Schools announced last night new quarantine guidelines aligned to the Center for Disease Control. They will be communicating specifics later today, but I wanted to share some general guidelines. I know we are all doing our best to navigate these changes and keep our community as healthy as possible.

Here are revised DPS guidelines:

  • Isolation: Any student, staff member, or volunteer in a school who tests positive for COVID-19 must isolate at home for at least 5 days. If at that point, symptoms are greatly improving and there is no fever (without the use of fever-reducing medication), they may return to school or work with a well-fitting mask on at all times when around others.
  • Quarantine: Students, staff members, or volunteers in a school who are exposed to someone with COVID-19 should do the following, based on their vaccination status:
    • Unvaccinated OR have not yet received a booster: Quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days.
    • Quarantine is not required for students, staff, or volunteers who are not experiencing symptoms, AND:
      • Are vaccinated and have received their booster; OR
      • Have completed the primary series (first 2 doses) of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine within the last 6 months; OR
      • Have completed the primary series (first dose) of Johnson & Johnson vaccine within the last 2 months; OR
      • (Students only) Both individuals were masked at the time of exposure.
    • Even if a person is not required to quarantine, the individual should wear a mask around others for 10 days after the exposure.
  • Anyone who has been exposed should be tested 5 days after exposure. If symptoms occur, individuals should immediately get tested and then quarantine until they get test results back. (If the results are positive, they should follow the isolation guidance above).

Please reach out if you have questions.  If students are out for quarantine and they feel well enough to do work we would like them to stay as connected as possible. If your child needs to quarantine please let your teacher know, Nurse Tran and Shelby Dennis via email- Hoang_Tran@dpsk12.net and Shelby_Dennis@dpsk12.net. Please give teachers 24 hours to prepare materials for your child to work on at home.  We will have materials for pick up at the front office. In the meantime and throughout, students can log onto Lexia (a researched based and adaptive literacy program) and Reflex Math daily. They can also read for at least 30 minutes, check our online books at the Swigert and DPS online library-  Sora – Explore (soraapp.com),  and journal.

We will continue to follow our masking protocols in the building and eat outside as many days as possible.  I know January is going to be a roller coaster, but we will navigate it with intentionality, grace and joy.  I appreciate your partnership so very much!Sincerely,

Shelby Dennis

Learner Profile Bingo

Thank you to all who participated in the Learner Profile Bingo activity from November! We hope this was a fun way to form a shared understanding of the learner profile attributes. These attributes serve as the foundation for building international mindedness in our students.

Our winner is Ella Cizmic, from Ms. Aggarwal’s kindergarten class! Congrats, Ella! You are receiving a copy of I Am One; A Book of Action by Susan Verde/Art by Peter Reynolds. Enjoy!

Inquiry and Curiosity Night

Please join our IB Coordinator, Caroline Dane, and our GT Coordinator, Robin Bresnahan, on Tuesday, January 18th from 4:00 – 5:00 in the library to explore the role inquiry and curiosity play in the teaching and learning at Swigert. We will also dive into things parents can do at home to cultivate a culture of curiosity with your families.

Auction

Hello Swigert Community! The Auction is back in person for the first time in two years in person! The 2022 Auction Committee is going to start posting updates in the Eagle Post to let you know about exciting auction news! Mark your calendars for the Grow Your Own Way Swigert Auction May 14, 2022 at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Our goal is to make the 2022 Auction a success in two major ways, one a fun and fabulous night out with our community and two a successful fundraising event for our school. The success of the auction is truly dependent on the generosity of our community whether its time, expertise, connections, or donations the auction simply cannot thrive without it! A new addition to the 2022 Auction is student art projects and they are going to be great (Robin Schild has done an absolutely amazing job planning these projects)! In order to create these projects we are asking for parent volunteers to help assist students for the art times and material donations for the projects. In the links below the times and items needed are listed by grade and within the links you can sign up for specific classes and items. If you have any questions please reach out to Molly Lacy (mollyelacy@gmail.com) or Amanda Jozsa (amandatjozsa@gmail.com).  We are so excited about this event and very grateful for our amazing community!

Best, Amanda and Molly
