The Eagle Post – January 18th
Dear Swigert Families, I hope everyone enjoyed the long holiday weekend. The life and legacy of Martin Luther King continues to resonate and is a pointed reminder of our resolve to make this world a more inclusive and peaceful place. We know this is a work in progress and we are committed to ensuring our school is  a place where every student is known and seen, where multiple perspectives and cultures are celebrated and our programming reflects diversity of thought and content. As an IB school we encourage our staff and students to be open minded and critical thinkers. As Martin Luther King states, “ the function of education is to teach  one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education.”

Another important component of our IB program at Swigert is to ignite curiosity and encourage students to inquire about their learning and the world around them – both locally as well as globally. Teachers ignite curiosity and inquiry through the development of engaging units that incorporate open ended questions, provocations, guest speakers and fieldwork tied to their units. Join our IB Coordinator, Caroline Dane, and GT teacher, Robin Breshnahan, this Friday for our virtual coffee talk at 10:00 am to learn about different ways we foster curiosity at Swigert as well as different opportunities to continue this at home. As Mae Jemison states, “Don’t let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It’s your place in the world; it’s your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live.”

Inquiry and Curiosity Night

Because of the shift in DPS guidelines for gathering, we are moving our inquiry and curiosity night to a virtual gathering on Friday, January 21st at 10am. Please join our IB Coordinator, Caroline Dane, and our GT Coordinator, Robin Bresnahan to explore the role inquiry and curiosity play in the teaching and learning at Swigert. We will also dive into things parents can do at home to cultivate a culture of curiosity with your families. We will record this and post it for viewing at a later date if this time doesn’t’ work for your family!

CoVid Testing

One of our parents shared the following information with us. If you need CoVid testing, please check out the following options:

Here is the link for the Ctrl Twr if you would like to get a rapid test. They told us that we could come back every few days, and even said we could come back every day if we wanted to since we have a known positive case in our house. Select Rapid, and not PCR, as they are only offering rapid tests at this time.

This is the most efficient PCR testing site we have been to yet. Just in case anyone else needs to get a PCR test, here is the link to register at Dick’s (entrance is off of Quebec at 60th). They are open from 8 AM to 6 PM seven days a week, and no line for either Kevin or myself between 830 and 930 when we went separately this morning. It is a 2 to 4 day turnaround time though.

Another option to order free tests (but only 4 tests per residential address):

Kids Heart Challenge

Hello Swigert International School Families,

Our Kids Heart Challenge Road Trip is starting soon!

On 1/27/2022 we will kick-off this year’s Kids Heart Challenge Road Trip!  Students will learn how and why they need to take care of their hearts and have the opportunity to help others by raising awareness and funds for the American Heart Association. Click here for a Sneak Peek of the program!

Finn’s Mission will be your road map along the way!  Check it out on the Kids Heart Challenge app for iPhone or Android, or online.

Complete Finn’s Mission with your family! https://youtu.be/l_kOvZDYsdU

If you can help raise funds, the American Heart Association will put those dollars to work saving lives. Every dollar makes a difference.  All students will participate in the activities whether you choose to raise donations or not.

Parents – you can join your student(s) on the road.  We invite you to join us in at-home heart-healthy behaviors by accessing the KHC Experience.

Why do we Support the American Heart Association?  1 out of 3 American adults have high blood pressure and don’t even know it.  Funds raised enable the AHA to ensure 200 million patients are covered through Target BP and their local health care options.  Taking a challenge to improve your heart is an important step in Finn’s Mission.  Understand more about High Blood Pressure HERE.

Thank you!
