The Eagle Post – January 25th

Posted January 26, 2022

Dear Swigert Families,

Hope you are staying warm and safe on this snowy day! I wanted to update you on a few district initiative and opportunities to share your voice.  Denver Public Schools is currently conducting a districtwide survey to gather input from parents and families. One of the issues they are addressing is the Health Start Initiative. This is an initiative to change start times for middle and high schools to a later start time.  This could have an impact on all elementary schools going to an earlier start time in the 2023-2024 school year- 7 or 7:30 am.  DPS is hoping to have a plan in place by June, 2022.  Please consider sharing your thoughts in this survey:

Please Complete the DPS Your Voice/Tu Voz Student and Family Surveys by Feb. 4, 2022 | Denver Public Schools (dpsk12.org)

Here is information on the Healthy Starts Initiative:

Please reach out to me if you have questions.  I also wanted to share a great resource – Our  IB Coordinator, Caroline Dane, and GT teacher, Robin Breshnahan hosted a conversation last week about different ways we foster curiosity at Swigert as well as different opportunities to continue this at home.   Here is a link to their presentation:

Fostering inquiry and curiosity

We are seeing a decline in staff and student cases. We are currently at 4 student cases and zero staff cases. I know we are not out of the woods with omicron and we will continue to adhere to our safety guidelines. It is nice to see a  current downward trend.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership – it means a great deal!Sincerely,

Shelby Dennis

Fun in the Afternoon Sun

After a cold and miserable morning, Swigert students were able to enjoy the snow this afternoon!

Colfax Marathon

Congratulations to our Swigert Colfax Marathon relay runners! They won the relay for fastest time and earned a $1000 donation to Swigert! Way to go Caroline Dane, Amador Jimenez, and Kayla Conarro! They averaged a 7:30 mile pace – balanced, risk takers, and fast!

District Spelling Bee

The Swigert Semantics Team competed in a district spelling bee on Thursday, January 20th against Slavens, DSA, Merrill Middle School, Montclair and Isabella Bird at Merrill Middle School. There were 30 spellers in all, with the majority of the spellers being middle school students. Charlie Rager just missed the top ten and Davis Jozsa came in 3rd place! A big congrats to him! All other spellers put in their best effort and made the most of the experience. Big thanks to our parent drivers and treat providers!!

Selfie & Donate

The PTA is excited to offer a FUNdraising opportunity – Selfie & Donate is similar to a Dine & Donate event… just with family fun taking all the pictures you want in front of 25+ different backdrops!  Selfie@Stanley is a fun, interactive art experience located within the Stanley Marketplace (www.selfieatstanley.com). On Feb 2, every ticket purchased will result in 20% of sales returning to our school!   You can purchase tickets online, and choose which timed entry slot works best for your family. Please be sure to enter the code SwigertSelfie so that our school benefits.

One important detail is that Selfie@Stanley falls under the Tri-County Health Department’s Mask Exemption program requiring that all visitors must be fully vaccinated from Covid-19 and must show proof of vaccination upon entry. So, we are so sorry that littles age 4 and under who aren’t yet eligible for vaccination, or anyone who is unable (no matter the reason) to be fully vaccinated, can’t attend. Should the health order change, we will certainly update everyone so you’re in the know.  What this does mean, is that you can take all the photos you want without a mask on, and be confident knowing that everyone else in the Selfie@Stanley space will also be fully vaccinated. We can’t wait to see you there and your fun photos after!

Winter Warm Up

The PTA is excited to host a Winter Warm Up event!  Please join us on Saturday, February 5th at 9:30 on the school playground and grab a cup of hot chocolate and say “hi” to fellow Swigert Families!  We hope to see many families at the event!!
