Dear Swigert Families

Thank you all for your support as we head into spring break. Today marked the first planting day in our community garden. Over the next three days the students will be planting lettuce seedlings that we will be able to harvest in May for International Night.

Over the past two weeks, we have seen an uptick in colds, flu and respiratory illness. I think after the masks went off there was more exposure to germs and sickness. On a positive note, we haven’t seen any more Covid cases  over the past two days so hopefully we are coming down from that hurdle.

DPS typically shares school choice information the Friday before spring break, however, we found out yesterday that they will be slightly delayed this year. The choice office stated that families should hear mid spring break. We hope everyone has a safe, healthy and joyful  spring break.

DPS Board Executive Limitations:

There is an  Update on the Executive Limitations from last night’s DPS Board  working session. They ended up with a revised version to the original proposal, please see the article here:

Denver scales back proposal to limit school autonomy – Chalkbeat Colorado

The DPS Board will vote on Thursday night (Information here)  I greatly appreciate all the community support for Swigert and innovation schools- this flexibility and autonomy is such a critically important factor to our programing and IB model.Sincerely,

Summer Connections

Summer Connections (formerly Summer Academy) is a free, 6-week academic program that is open to all rising 1st through 5th-grade students. This full-day program was redesigned to prepare elementary students for future success.

There are a few programming options offered by DPS for students who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Please contact the Special Education team if you are unsure which program is best for your student. Participation and attendance in the Extended School Year (ESY) program is a priority for students who are eligible for these services.

Students will engage with content they will see in the upcoming school year, which will include instruction in foundational literacy, math and science. Our enrichment partners will guide students for 60 minutes each day through hands-on activities aligned with that day’s academic lessons.
