The Eagle Post – April 12th

for eagle post

Dear Swigert Families;

Today was our first day of CMAS  state testing for our third, fourth and  fifth graders. We haven’t taken the full assessment in two years so for many of our students this was their first experience.  We started with the literacy sessions and will tackle math next week.  These assessments  are used by the state and district for several metrics and at the school level, our teachers use the information to  help our students with literacy, math and science skills/knowledge. We also know it’s only one piece of data in a bigger picture that helps us to support your child. We don’t want this test to add any undue stress  and our teachers don’t put pressure on our students – we just want them to try their best.

Our fifth graders practiced interview skills last Friday as they prepared for their Ameritowne experience.  Every student applied for a job they wanted – ranging from bankers, doctors, and journalists – and put together a resume.   Although not all students received their first choice, every student will have a job and participate in the experience in May.  Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to support by interviewing our students.

Sincerely,Shelby Dennis

IEP/504 Presentation

4/13/22, 7:00 pm-8:30 pm— Free Virtual Zoom Presentation: “IEP and 504 Frequently Asked Questions”

Understanding the special education process can be confusing— leaving families, caregivers, and even educators with many unanswered questions.  During this presentation, participants will explore helpful resources as well as ask questions of local experts from the DPS Child Find Private School Evaluation Team and Special Education Consultant at Project Idea. Use this Evite link to RSVPand to gain access to the Zoom link for this free presentation hosted by DenCoKID .

Bake Sale Success

Thank you very much for all your support with the Swigert Bake Sale. . Elizabeth baked the sweets all by herself (cupcakes, chocolate cookies, and M&M cookies). The total revenue was $151. The Franz family doubled the bake sale donation and covered the CC transaction costs. In addition Gates will double the donation again, so the total donation to UNICEF Children in Ukraine will be $628.

Summer Connections

Summer Connections (formerly Summer Academy) is a free, 6-week academic program that is open to all rising 1st through 5th-grade students. This full-day program was redesigned to prepare elementary students for future success.

There are a few programming options offered by DPS for students who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Please contact the Special Education team if you are unsure which program is best for your student. Participation and attendance in the Extended School Year (ESY) program is a priority for students who are eligible for these services.

Students will engage with content they will see in the upcoming school year, which will include instruction in foundational literacy, math and science. Our enrichment partners will guide students for 60 minutes each day through hands-on activities aligned with that day’s academic lessons.
