The Eagle Post – May 31st

Posted May 31, 2022

Dear Swigert Community,

It’s hard to believe this is the final week of the 2021-2022 school year. I look forward to celebrating our fifth graders this Thursday as they share their exhibition projects and we hold our continuation.  On Friday morning at 11:50 we will do our annual fifth grade clap out – parents are welcome to join.  All students line the hallways and cheer the fifth graders out of the building. It’s an emotional and fun  way to send them off to their next journey. Friday is a half day for all students with full dismissal at noon.

This year was definitely more challenging than we anticipated – the ups and downs  and continued presence of covid, understanding the  real and deep impacts of the pandemic on our students and staff, and navigating  our continued societal racism and uptick in  violence.  Through it all I am so proud of our community for holding on and ensuring we continued to practice what makes Swigert a special place.  Our teachers created engaging and authentic learning experiences that ensured students took action and agency in their learning, intentional mindedness was prioritized as well as social emotional learning and we continuously are working towards an inclusive learning community. I know we have areas to improve on and am confident in our journey together.

Shout out to two volunteers who  have supported incredibly important projects for us and are passing along the reigns.  Hope Hartman has spearheaded our critical needs program and food pantry for the past 5 years. Gretchen Everett initiated and worked tirelessly to support our Community Garden. Thank you both for your tremendous effort and time.

I am so very  thankful for your partnership and am truly honored to learn from your kids everyday.  We have so much to learn from their approach to the world.  They emanate  joy and love for learning is heartwarming and contagious.

I  hope you all enjoy your summer adventures and time with your family. Stay safe, healthy and keep on learning.  As B.B King shared, ““The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.”

I am including links to DPS summer programing and our own Swigert reading summer challenge below.

Medication Pick-Up

Dear Swigert Families,

Thank you for supporting The Denver Public Schools medication policy. Please make sure to pick up all medications used by your child on or before the last day of school. Colorado Guidelines state that medications are not permitted to be sent home with your child. If your child is participating in a summer program, their medication will not automatically be transferred to the site of the program. It is up to the parent/guardian to pick up the medication from the school and transport it to the summer program site.

*REMAINING MEDICATIONS WILL BE DESTROYED END OF DAY JUNE 3rd 2022.*

It has been a pleasure to work with you and your child this school year and I look forward to next year. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at hoang_tran@dpsk12.org.

Sincerely,

Hoang Tran
School Nurse
