The Eagle Post – August 30th

Posted August 31, 2022

Dear Swigert Families,

We continue to learn our  routines with a full school day  including lunch, recess and specials!  Our students are learning how to use the cafeteria again and navigate the hot lunch service- scooping fruit, string cheese packages and opening milk cartons seem to be our biggest challenges.  It’s definitely been a learning curve and  we are figuring it out together.

Students are also engaging in our specials programming- STEM, PE, Visual Arts, Music, Spanish and Library time.  Our specials programming provides different ways for students to explore their interests, find new passions  and express their creativity.  This website introduces your awesome specials team- Swigert International School » Specials (dpsk12.org).  Students rotate through our specials classes on a two day rotation- meaning they have art two days in row then rotate to Spanish/PE, STEM, etc. –  AA, BB, CC, DD, EE  schedule.  We moved to a two day rotation because it allows our specials teachers to finish their lessons from day one to day two and get to know students better. I know the schedule can be confusing at best and I follow this  helpful link to the schedule- Swigert International School » Specials Rotation Schedule (dpsk12.org).  Students officially go to the library every two weeks to listen to a read aloud and check out books. Our librarian, Ms. Sallie, is available to help students find books they are interested in, access online books and  also supports our teachers in finding books for their IB units.  She has created a robust system to support and encourage reading- check out her website  here Swigert International School » Library Resources (dpsk12.org)

Sincerely,

Shelby Dennis

School Pictures

Picture Days are coming up next week on Tuesday, September 6th-Wednesday, September 8th. We’re using a new company this year called Bloom so there are a few changes to how it was done in the past!

To find out what day your student is scheduled for, head to our school’s Picture Day Dashboard. You can register for their Smile Club to get discounts, find out what day your student is being photographed on, and view/order pictures from this dashboard. Make sure to review this dashboard to learn more about Bloom and their process.  Bloom does not do any pre-ordering or pre-payments, and all ordering happens AFTER picture day through online password protected galleries.

If your student is absent on their picture day, makeup picture day will be Friday, September 9th. Retakes will happen in October!

Back to School Night

Thursday September 8th 5:30-7:00 pm.

We are excited to invite you to Back to School Night on September 8th! This will be a chance for you to hear from your child’s teacher(s) in more depth about the upcoming year. You’ll hear about their schedule, some of the things they’ll be learning, and be able to ask questions!

Teachers will hold 2 identical sessions in their classrooms, one at 5:30pm and one at 6pm.

There will also be two identical sessions in the gym for school wide information. We will hear from our principal, Mrs. Dennis, and our NDIZ Zone Director, Dr. Colleen O’Brien. These sessions will be held at 6pm and 6:30pm.

Lastly, Robin Bresnahan, our GT Coordinator, will be discussing Gifted and Talented Identification and Programming at Swigert. If you would like to learn more about Giftedness, how students get identified as Gifted and Talented, Advanced Learning Plans, and programming at Swigert, please join Mrs. Bresnahan in the STEM room (123) for her one session at 6:30pm.

**If you cannot attend or have more than 2 students, all the information will be emailed out the following day.**
