The Eagle Post – November 8th

Posted November 8, 2022

Dear Swigert Families,

We are looking forward to bringing back two  in person events in the next two weeks. Mrs. Baker is hosting our first post-covid music concert for our fourth and fifth grade students on Thursday evening.    And we are bringing back our in-school Thanksgiving Lunch on Thursday November 17th. Our awesome lunch crew serves a turkey lunch with all the fixings. Parents are welcome to attend, but we do need to know in advance. We adjusted our lunch times in order to accommodate our parents. Please see the details below

I requested a shift on our bell time for next year from 7:40 to return to our 8:30 slot from a few years ago. I know transportation is muddling through a lot of requests right now but we hope to hear back before the choice window opens up in January. I will keep you posted!

Finally, we are definitely seeing the impact of the flu season coupled with an increase of respiratory and covid cases with several staff and students out on a daily basis.  I know it’s hard when your  kids are sick, please reach out to Nurse Tran if you need any advice regarding whether or not to keep your child home.  His email is hoang_tran@dpsk12.net,  and phone number is 720-424-4803.

Sincerely,

Shelby Dennis

Thanksgiving Dinner

We are excited to offer our Thanksgiving Dinner to families again this year! Due to the size of the event, lunch times will have to be slightly modified; details to come.

Thanksgiving Dinner will be held on Thursday, November 17th. Students’ meals will be the regular price, and processed as a normal lunch. Siblings who do not attend Swigert will be charged $3.00 if they get their own lunch. Adult meals are $5.00 each. Tickets need to be purchased before the event at the front office, by check (made out to Swigert) or cash (exact change, please). We have a limited number of tickets.

The menu is:

Roasted Turkey (omitted for vegetarian option)
Chicken Gravy
Dinner Roll
Sage Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Green Beans
Sweet Potato Cake
Milk/Chocolate Milk

The lunch schedule is (eating times only listed):

ECE: 11:35 – 11:55
Kdg:  10:50 – 11:25
1st:   10:30 – 11:05
2nd:  11:05 – 11:40
3rd:   12:50 – 1:20
4th:   12:20 – 12:50
5th:   1:20 – 1:45

Please note: if you have more than one student and would like everyone to eat together, that’s no problem! Just come before the earliest lunch starts, so you have time to get checked in and call your other student(s) down to join you. The other student(s) will still have to sit with their classmates during their own lunchtime, unless you stay with them. However, they won’t have to eat again.

Food Drive

Swigert will be hosting a food drive to stock the shelves of our food bank.  Please bring in the following items this week to help support our families.  There will be collection boxes outside each classroom door. We ask that donated items are canned or boxed, rather than bagged.

ECE/Kinder: Peanut or Sun butter / Jelly
1st: Canned vegetables / fruit
2nd: Canned Chicken or Tuna
3rd: Cereal
4th: Pasta / Pasta sauce
5th: Granola bars / Mac and Cheese

Recorders

As a part of the music curriculum, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are learning to play the soprano recorder. The 3rd grade classes are starting their recorder unit now. The 4th and 5th grade classes will have their recorder units later this year. We have found that many parents like to purchase the recorders so students can practice at home as well as at school. We will be ordering 3-piece Yamaha recorders. Each recorder (including shipping) costs $5.00.

Students may also wish to purchase a copy of Recorder Express for $6.00. This book is supplemental to the work the students are doing in class.

Here are some helpful practice hints:

  1. Cover all the holes tightly- leaks lead to squeaks!
  2. Left on top-forget me not!
  3. Blow gently with “warm” air.

If you choose to purchase a recorder, sign into your account at myschoolbucks.com. From there, click on “Products,” then “Recorders-Swigert.” You will have the option to choose a recorder alone (standard), recorder and book, or book alone. Your student will receive their recorder during music class.

If you would like a recorder for your student but are unable to afford one at this time, please contact Krystie in the front office.

Thank you for your continued support of your child’s creativity in music!
