Dear Swigert Families,
I hope everyone has opportunities this summer to connect and explore. There will be alot of change in the interior of the building as everyone moves classrooms and spaces. We will be excited to reconnect in the fall, but I wanted to share some information and events coming up this summer and into next fall. I am excited to meet new families and thrilled that you will be joining our community.
Here are some other dates to get on your calendars:
We have two New Family Playdates scheduled in August to give parents and kids a chance to meet classmates and other families and to feel more comfortable on the first day of school. Just come to the playground for hanging out and popsicles. Current Swigert families are encouraged to come!
Join us at Swigert to find out who your teacher and classmates will be for the year! You’ll have an opportunity to say hello to your new teacher, sign up for an assessment time (during the first two days of school in the afternoons), let teachers know your child’s plan for getting to and from school, and pick up any other pertinent information about the start of the year. The PTA will sell Spirit Wear and administrators will be making their way around to say hello. You can also bring your school supplies to drop off in the classroom.
Although your acceptance is official, every family must complete registration each year. Families can register online during windows: The “Early Bird” window which is May 1st – 19th. A second window will open July 30th. Registration can only be completed by the parent/guardian listed in the primary household of the student record. Parents/guardians must have an active DPS Parent Portal account to participate or create an account at myportal.dpsk12.org.
Have a wonderful summer !
Sincerely,
Shelby Dennis

The school buses are going to pick students up early; they will arrive at the school at 7:10 AM. In order to plan for supervision and spaces, we need to know if you plan to have your child(ren) ride the bus to school next year. Please complete the survey here:

The Summer Garden has been planted and needs your help!
We’ve planted peppers, tomatoes, tomatillos, jalapenos, pumpkins, flowers, and more! In the Fall, the students will use the garden as a space to learn about plants, insects, farming, and to harvest food for our backpack program. If you’re able to help, please sign up to be responsible for an area of the garden (see map on tab 1), or help us control the weeds for a week (tab 2)! The kids appreciate it! Any questions? Please contact Allison Owen at 972-839-3480.
Yearbooks will be delivered in August. 5th graders will receive theirs at their home; everyone else’s will ship to the school, as usual. We’ll arrange a day/days for families who ordered one to come and pick them up, so kids can get together and sign them. If your family is unable to make it at the scheduled time(s), yearbooks will be abailable to pick up during regular office hours.
