The Eagle Post – August 1st

Posted August 1, 2023

Dear Swigert Families,

I can’t believe it’s already August and we are planning the year ahead. Soak in those last few weeks of summer! It is an exciting time and a unique year for Swigert as we grow into the building and expand some of our grade level bands. I look forward to meeting new families and reconnecting with existing families as we continue to build our amazing community. There is a great deal of information in this Eagle Post as we prepare for the upcoming school year. If you have any questions regarding the beginning of the year, school programming, etc., don’t hesitate to reach out. We are all in this together.

We are in the process of a huge move inside the building as all classrooms are shifting spaces. I can’t wait to have our entire staff back on August 14th to reconnect and plan for the year ahead. As the first day of school approaches it is helpful to start gradually implementing routines at home and here are a few recommendations:
  • Set your kids’ sleep schedules back to “school time” two weeks before the first day of school.
  • Encourage your kids to read at least one (or one more) book of interest before the school year begins
  • Talk with your kids about their feelings about returning to school and see what they are most excited about and maybe most anxious.

There is a family playdate this Sunday, August 6th from 9-11 am and one Thursday, August 10th at 5:30 if you would like to join for popsicles and meeting some new faces. We are also planning a volunteer clean up on the grounds for Sunday, August 13th from 8:00-10:00. If you have time, we would love your help getting the grounds ready for the school year. All of our back to school dates and information can be found here on our website which is always a great place to look for up-to-date information: Swigert Back to School Dates.

SUMMER PLAYDATES

**DATE CHANGE FOR PLAYDATE**

We have two summer playdates coming up on the playground. We have a sports camp using our campus and after checking it out today, I’m going to move the Saturday playdate to SUNDAY, AUGUST 6th. There was just too much activity all over the playground and the parking lots were packed!

Join us either date for popsicles, hanging out, and a staff member or two will be there to chat and answer questions! Feel free to keep making informal playdates too!

YEARBOOK UPDATE

2022-23 Yearbooks are scheduled to arrive by Friday, August 11th. Once we have them in hand, we’ll send out invitations to join us to gather, receive the one you pre-ordered (there are a few extras, which will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, as we don’t know how many there will be), and sign each others’ yearbooks. Rising 6th graders’ yearbooks will arrive at their houses.

LUNCHES

All students in DPS will have access to free school meals beginning this year thanks to the Healthy School Meals for All Program approved by Colorado voters. While meals will be provided for free to all DPS students, ALL families will still need to complete a form to ensure DPS gets full access to federal funding. Please see more details and fill out the form here:

https://www.dpsk12.org/healthy-school-meals-for-all-complete-the-you-benefit-form-at-registration/

To find out more about how to view the lunch calendar weekly, you can check out the website here: https://swigert.dpsk12.org/parent-resources/lunch-breakfast/

We also post the weekly food schedule on the Friends Swigert facebook page!
