Swigert has an active parent community. There are many ways to get involved in the school:
The Parent Teacher Association is a collaborative and supportive organization that brings together parents, teachers, and school staff to enhance the overall educational environment for our students including funding the IB Program. For more information, please visit swigertpta.com.
The School Accountability Committee advises the principal and communicates with the public on the school’s UIP, educational program, budget and staffing allocations as outlined in the SAC bylaws. Whenever possible, decisions will be made by full consensus of the SAC, which will include the school principal. In the event that the SAC does not reach consensus, the principal will make decisions that take into consideration the input of SAC members and the school’s mission, vision, and student achievement goals.
SAC members will include staff, parents, and community members elected by their peers. The SAC will actively recruit minority members and representation from all constituents. The SAC will provide public accountability for meeting school performance goals, support for the school leader in implementing the Innovation Plan, and will advocate for the school within the community.
Every two years, SIS will hold an election to determine who the school community will nominate for the SAC. The SIS school leader will share the results of the election with the public and will announce the elected SAC members. The SAC will meet every other month between September 1st and May 31st.
Each classroom needs a Room Parent (or team), as well as volunteers to stuff Friday Folders, lead small groups in Math or Reading, read to groups, chaperone field trips, and other help as the teacher and parent agree is needed. Please email your child’s teacher if you’re interested in volunteering.
