Tours and School Choice

Thanks for checking out our school!

Thank you so much for your interest in Swigert International School. We will begin tours earlier (end of September) this year because the DPS Choice timeline has moved up a month.

We offer tours on Wednesdays (9 & 10am), Fridays (8:30 and 9:30am) and a few evening options.

We will see the whole building and talk about all grades, including ECE4, on each tour. We do also offer a few ECE4 specific tours which spend a little more time down in the ECE rooms and do not go upstairs to see 2nd grade and above.

SchoolChoice Information

The DPS SchoolChoice Round 1 open enrollment window for the 2026-27 school year opens at 10 a.m. on December 2, 2025 and runs through January 20, 2026 at 4pm.

The DPS SchoolChoice open enrollment process is for any student who wants or needs to attend a new school for the following school year, particularly “transitioning” students (incoming kinder, sixth- and ninth-grade students).

Prepare for SchoolChoice

First, to prepare for SchoolChoice, learn more about schools in which you might be interested, starting with your neighborhood school. Check out the School Finder, read the Enrollment Guides and tour the schools you are interested in.

All kindergarten through 12th-grade students are guaranteed a seat at either their neighborhood (boundary) school or, if living within an enrollment zone, are guaranteed a seat at one of the schools within that zone. If you “choice” out of your boundary school or enrollment zone, your current school of enrollment is your new right-to-attend school. To find your neighborhood school or to learn if you live in an enrollment zone, enter your address at School Finder.

Swigert is located in the Central Park Enrollment Zone (this zone includes these other elementary schools: Bill Roberts, Inspire, Isabella Bird, and Westerly Creek, and Willow).

Submit Your Application

Create an account or, if you’re a parent of a current DPS student, use your Parent Portal username and password to log in to the SchoolChoice application. Then, rank up to 12 of your most-preferred schools anytime during the Choice window. For the 2026-27 school year, the Round 1 application will be open from 10 a.m. on Dec. 2, 2025 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 20, 2026. Families can submit one Choice application per student. For step-by-step instructions, review the application guide.

The Matching Process

Following Round 1, when all applications have been submitted, the Choice algorithm will randomly assign all participating students a lottery number between 1 and 1 million. Students are also assigned a priority level for each of the schools they selected based on pre-determined priority categories published by each school.

The algorithm will then rank and stack students within each priority category based on their randomly assigned lottery number. This produces an ordered list of students for every grade at every school. The system then allocates seats to students based on the order in which they fall on this list; the system then assigns waitlist numbers to all students who do not obtain a seat in order of how they were ranked and stacked.

Round 1 results will be released to families in late February.

Check out our FAQ for a larger overview of the SchoolChoice process. If you need additional help or have questions, start by contacting the SchoolChoice hotline at 720-423-3493, or emailing schoolchoice@dpsk12.org.

Round 2 SchoolChoice

Round 2 begins every year after families are notified of their Round 1 school placements. Round 2 is the first-come, first-served segment of SchoolChoice for families who missed Round 1, took part in Round 1 but want to re-explore their options, or are new to DPS for the next school year. Find out more information about Round 2 HERE.

2026-27 ECE4 Application Process

Important Dates

ECE-4 Application Process

Children who turn 4 years old on or before Oct. 1, 2026 are eligible for ECE-4 for the 2026-27 school year. All children in Colorado are eligible for up to 15 hours of free, state-funded preschool in the year before they’re eligible for kindergarten through the Colorado Preschool Program. Some families may qualify for more funding based on a number of qualifying factors.

ECE-4 applicants must submit both the DPS SchoolChoice and UPK applications. The matching process is based on the ranked list submitted through UPK (not SchoolChoice).

To apply for ECE-4, families must:

  1. Submit the UPK application during the first matching round for the best chance of getting matched to their preferred school. The first family matching round is open from Dec. 9, 2025 to Feb. 2, 2026.
    1. Families of students who do not have an IEP will rank up to 10 schools in order of preference.
    2. If the student has an IEP, the application will ask the family to submit their application without making school selections. This is expected, and they should submit the application anyway.
  2. Submit a SchoolChoice application during Round 1 to notify DPS of their intent to enroll in an ECE-4 program next year. Round 1 is open from 10 a.m. on Dec. 2 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 20. Families will select “Universal Preschool” as the school.

Families who do not qualify for the pre-registration round can submit their application at any time during the first matching round. These families will be notified of their matches on Feb. 25 and must accept or decline their offered seat by March 6.

UPK Pre-Registration

The first round of UPK is open from Dec. 9, 2025 to Feb. 2, 2026. A process called “pre-registration” happens simultaneously during the first round of UPK. Pre-registration is for families who:

The pre-registration process is first-come, first-served. Families who qualify for pre-registration should submit their UPK application as soon as possible once it opens. These families will be notified of their matches on Feb. 2 and must accept or decline their offered seat by Feb. 11.
