I grew up in the Midwest as the daughter of two educators, so teaching has always been in my blood. Education took me to upstate New York for college (Go Cuse!) and to Arkansas and Mississippi with Teach for America, where I taught at low-income, high-needs schools in the rural Mississippi Delta. It’s hard to believe, but my first class of 5th graders will be graduating this year! I moved from the South to the Southside of Chicago, where I taught 4th and 5th grade at an arts-infusion school. It was here my eyes were first opened to teaching methods such as arts infusion, inquiry-based learning, and small group instruction. So, when given an opportunity to explore and challenge my practice with the IB program, I jumped at the opportunity to work at Swigert. This is my second year at Swigert and, though my name has changed, my enthusiasm for the kids and the program remains the same. I can’t wait to grow alongside my students this year!
