I am excited to be part of the Swigert community in a leadership role. I spent the last two years at Swigert as a literacy specialist and an instructional coach. I was born in Irvine, California and did my undergraduate studies at the University of California at Berkeley–go bears! I moved to Colorado 1997 to do my graduate studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder in Education Foundations and Social Policy. I worked as an education policy analyst for several years before entering the teaching profession, where I taught language arts and social studies in for several years. I loved teaching middle school but my passion was in elementary literacy. I was trained as an elementary reading specialist and became a reading interventionist. I have fifteen years of teaching and coaching experience. I taught Children’s Literature courses at the University of Northern Colorado’s Urban Education Program for the past three years. I live in with my husband Kurt and two children, Kelsey (10) and Delaney (6). In my spare time, I love to spend time outside, running, gardening, or hiking. If I could be anywhere, I would be near the water, and specifically at the beach in Tulum, Mexico.
