The Eagle Post – December 7th

Posted December 7, 2021

Good afternoon Swigert Families,  As an IB school we strive to be internationally minded and inquirers.  During this time of year we take time to learn about the varied and rich winter traditions that are followed by our families at Swigert as well as around the world.  In years past we have come together as  a community to listen to storytellers and share culinary delights from different cultures. Due to Covid we will still have our winterfest  on Thursday, December 16th; however it will look a little different.  Here is what we have plannedDuring morning meeting students will share a winter or holiday tradition Throughout the day classes will visit tables set up in the main hallway with the background, pictures and memorabilia of different cultural celebrations and traditions from around the world.Students will watch and listen to a professional storyteller share a cultural storyCreating a winterfest website with read alouds, traditions and videos to explore that day/evening with your child What we need from you:Please help your child fill out their tradition sheet (arriving  home Friday December 10th and return by Thursday December 16th) to share during morning meeting If you are interested (optional) please email Emily Pool a blurb and pictures about your family or cultural traditions/recipes  for the holidays that we can put on our winterfest website. We are going to roll over traditions families shared from last year so you don’t need to repeat if you did it last year.

Through international mindedness students can work in harmony with peers from around the world, learn from each other and learn about different perspectives. It also helps to promote respect, empathy and compassion.Sincerely,  Shelby Dennis

Spirit Wear Update

I know many of you have inquired when the new gear will be arriving. While we were promised it would be in before the holidays we were just told that they are experiencing the same supply chain issues as many other stores. The vendor is hopeful that we will still have our items before the holidays but can’t guarantee anything. I will update you as soon as I have more details and we will do everything we can to get the orders out to everyone in time for Christmas. Thanks for your patience!

PTA Corner

Swigert is included in Colorado Gives Day this year, on December 7th, today!!  This is a wonderful opportunity for businesses to donate to our school.  Please visit coloradogives.org to schedule your donation or make your donations on December 7th.  Many businesses will do matching through Colorado Gives Day donations, so please consider Swigert as you choose where to donate this year!

The PTA is excited to team up with a fellow Swigert mom of 3, Kerri Schoen who is offering a Workout and Donate event at her fitness studio TWST Fitness.  Please join Kerri on Thursday night December 16th.  There will be 2 class slots, 5:15pm and 6:15pm.  Each class is 45 minutes long.  TWST Fitness is a Lagree Method fitness studio.  We specialize in a core dynamic, full body workout on a specialized piece of equipment called the Megaformer to build a longer, leaner body.  The Lagree method focuses on developing short twitch muscle fibers.  We will move slowly and always keep good alignment during the practice of Lagree. Classes are 45 minutes with a cool down stretch incorporated.  Please wear sticky socks as we workout in bare feet.  If you don’t have any, we have them at the studio for purchase.  After the workout, enjoy a glass of Prosecco!  The studio is located at 2525 Geneva St. Unit 1 80010, it is on 25th just past the MCA baseball fields.

Kerri is donating half the proceeds back to Swigert.  $30 per reservation.  12 spots available for each class time.  Please visit www.TWSTFitness.com to learn more and to book your reservation!

Our next Dine and Donate event will be at Scratch Kitchen on Thursday, December 9th.  Visit www.scratchkitchen.com to place an order for pickup or delivery!  Don’t forget to mark your calendar!
I hope everyone enjoys the crazy month of December!  Thank you to everyone for all that you do for our Swigert Eagles.

Holiday Gift Program

Happy Holidays Swigert Community! The PTA Critical Needs Committee is collecting Walmart gift cards in $10 or $20 increments this holiday season for our families in the weekend food backpack program. If you have gift cards to contribute to this effort, please ring the buzzer and hand them to the front office staff.

These gift cards are beneficial for several reasons. It allows our families to shop online instead of visiting a store. It provides families the flexibility and options for groceries for a family meal to celebrate their holiday. Finally, it will allow us to make sure that the parents have the joy of selecting the gifts that their children need or will most enjoy.

There are two ways that you can contribute to this effort. The first one will be through actual gift cards. We request that gift cards come in $10 or $20 increments so we can divide evenly.
If you would prefer to donate directly to the gift card fund, you can Venmo any amount you are able to donate to @Hope-Hartman-5280.
We will pool the monetary donations and purchase gift cards for distribution.

Thank you for your continued support of all students here at Swigert. We are so grateful for the generosity and kindness in our community!
If you are in need of assistance, and you are not enrolled in our food support program, we are still happy to assist. Please reach out to Mr. Fisher at richard_fisher@dpsk12.org.
Thank you,
Richard Fisher – Swigert Dean of Operations
Hope Hartman – Swigert PTA Chair of Family Resources/Critical Needs
