Orchestra

About:

Welcome to Swigert Orchestra!  Orchestra is offered for students in grades 3-5 who are interested in learning the violin, viola or cello.  Open to players of all experience levels, it will be geared towards beginners with no experience necessary.  In orchestra, students will learn proper instrument technique, ensemble skills and collaboration and how to express themselves through music.

Schedule

Orchestra will take place Thursdays after school from 3:15-4:15 starting on September 10th.  Performances will take place in December and May.

Policies

The orchestra will be open to 20 students maximum.  Additional spots may open as space allows.  Parents are responsible for picking up their child promptly at 4:15 and encouraging regular practice at home.

Student Expectations:

  1. Students are expected to attend class regularly with only 1-2 absences allowed per semester.
  2. Students are expected to bring all necessary materials for class including their instrument, music and other important supplies.
  3. Students are expected to practice their instrument outside of class at least 2-3 times a week.  Learning an instrument requires frequent diligent practice and as a group, we will depend on each other to progress and grow.
  4. Students are expected to behave following our school norms and with respect to all individuals in the group.

Supplies

Students are responsible for renting an instrument at this time.  All other supplies such as a music book, shoulder rest/sponge, pencil and cleaning cloth will be provided as part of tuition.
