The Eagle Post – December 14th

Posted December 14, 2021

Good afternoon Swigert Families,

I am grateful every day that we are in person and your children bring us so much joy. Their love for learning is contagious and it’s so exciting to see their engagement and growth – we are thrilled to send our students on fieldwork in the community as well as bringing in fieldwork to the school. This week our  Kinder students took off to the Colorado History Museum, ECE students went to the Stanley Marketplace as part of their community unit, and the Fiske Planetarium is coming to Swigert on Friday for our fifth grade science unit.

We are looking forward to celebrating our Winterfest 2021 on Thursday. During this time of year we take time to learn about the varied and rich winter traditions that are followed by our families at Swigert as well as around the world.

Here is what we have planned

  • During morning meeting students will share their winter or holiday traditions
  • Throughout the day classes will visit tables set up in the main hallway with the the background, pictures and memorabilia of different cultural celebrations and traditions
  • Students will watch storyteller, Kate Lutz, share an Inuit tale
  • There is a link on our website with readings, traditions and videos to explore that day/evening with your students. Swigert Winterfest (wordpress.com) We are using the one we started last year and adding new traditions – if you want to add  more, please email Emily_Pool@dpsk12.net

Sincerely,

Shelby Dennis

Inquiry and Curiosity Night

Please join our IB Coordinator, Caroline Dane, and our GT Coordinator, Robin Bresnahan, on Tuesday, January 18th from 4:00 – 5:00 in the library to explore the role inquiry and curiosity play in the teaching and learning at Swigert. We will also dive into things parents can do at home to cultivate a culture of curiosity with your families.

Holiday Gift Program

Happy Holidays Swigert Community! The PTA Critical Needs Committee is collecting Walmart gift cards in $10 or $20 increments this holiday season for our families in the weekend food backpack program. If you have gift cards to contribute to this effort, please ring the buzzer and hand them to the front office staff.

These gift cards are beneficial for several reasons. It allows our families to shop online instead of visiting a store. It provides families the flexibility and options for groceries for a family meal to celebrate their holiday. Finally, it will allow us to make sure that the parents have the joy of selecting the gifts that their children need or will most enjoy.

There are two ways that you can contribute to this effort. The first one will be through actual gift cards. We request that gift cards come in $10 or $20 increments so we can divide evenly.
If you would prefer to donate directly to the gift card fund, you can Venmo any amount you are able to donate to @Hope-Hartman-5280.
We will pool the monetary donations and purchase gift cards for distribution.

Thank you for your continued support of all students here at Swigert. We are so grateful for the generosity and kindness in our community!
If you are in need of assistance, and you are not enrolled in our food support program, we are still happy to assist. Please reach out to Mr. Fisher at richard_fisher@dpsk12.org.
Thank you,
Richard Fisher – Swigert Dean of Operations
Hope Hartman – Swigert PTA Chair of Family Resources/Critical Needs

Auction

Hello Swigert Community! The Auction is back in person for the first time in two years in person! The 2022 Auction Committee is going to start posting updates in the Eagle Post to let you know about exciting auction news! Mark your calendars for the Grow Your Own Way Swigert Auction May 14, 2022 at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Our goal is to make the 2022 Auction a success in two major ways, one a fun and fabulous night out with our community and two a successful fundraising event for our school. The success of the auction is truly dependent on the generosity of our community whether its time, expertise, connections, or donations the auction simply cannot thrive without it! A new addition to the 2022 Auction is student art projects and they are going to be great (Robin Schild has done an absolutely amazing job planning these projects)! In order to create these projects we are asking for parent volunteers to help assist students for the art times and material donations for the projects. In the links below the times and items needed are listed by grade and within the links you can sign up for specific classes and items. If you have any questions please reach out to Molly Lacy (mollyelacy@gmail.com) or Amanda Jozsa (amandatjozsa@gmail.com).  We are so excited about this event and very grateful for our amazing community!

Best, Amanda and Molly
