Dear Swigert Families,
Last spring Denver Public Schools announced changes to the start and end times for schools for the 2023-2024 school year as part of their Healthy Start Time Initiative. Your can find more information about this initiative here- Healthy Start Times | Denver Public Schools (dpsk12.org)
DPS proposed to change Swigert’s bell times for Fall of 2023 to 7:40am – 2:40pm. We are seeking your feedback and input to see how this might impact your family. We are also gathering input from our staff because it could potentially cause teachers to look for other positions due to their family situation, commute, etc. We will use this data to inform our next steps including reaching out to the DPS Board.

Learn a little more about Swigert’s ECE Para, Gale Vigil.
My name is Gale Vigil and am the ECE Paraprofessional. I enjoy hiking and spending time outdoors. I love my family and my dog, Hadley. My favorite food is watermelon. I’ve enjoyed watching the kids grow and learn every year. I often wonder, “who will they be in 20 years?”

Swigert is starting a school newspaper club. We are looking for a team of journalists in grades 3-5 interested in helping write, publish, and distribute a Swigert newspaper. The team will meet every Tuesday from 3:15-4:00 to discuss article ideas, write stories, edit and revise our work, and then publish a newspaper for our classmates.
Writers and/or artists interested in being a part of the team can get an application from their classroom teacher. The application, along with a sample newspaper article, is due by Thursday, September 29th.
Your student’s picture galleries are live! Head to https://bloomschoolpictures.com/swigert and use your student’s ID number to see their proofs and order packages. Retakes will be in late October if you’re not happy with your student’s picture in any way! Class photos will be taken in the spring.
Families can choose to buy a Student ID for $5; however, students will not be receiving student IDs automatically this year.
The Yearbook Cover Contest is back! This year’s theme is “Out of this World.” Please see the attached rules and the example from last year’s yearbook for a student-drawn front-only cover, or the example from 20-21 for a Digitally-created example. .
We have a bunch of arts integration painting projects throughout the year and we are in need of square or round plastic containers for water. Please bring in any that you have in the next couple of weeks. 🙂
