I have been working at Swigert since 2012 when I started as a 4th grade teacher. I have been in several different roles over the last 12 years- literacy interventionist, math interventionist, Senior team lead for 4/5, and I am currently the IB coordinator. Stepping into the role of the coordinator has given me a new perspective of Swigert’s curriculum and culture. I take a lot of pride in our school wide programme of inquiry that our teachers are constantly revising and improving to best fit the needs of our current students. Planning authentic service learning opportunities that help strengthen our community connections and arranging meaningful field work connected to our units of inquiry is another part of my job that I feel passionate about. The authentic learning experiences all of our students take part in sets Swigert apart from other public elementary schools and I feel fortunate that my own children get to benefit from being part of this community.
I love working with our knowledgeable teachers and inspiring our students to give back to make the world around us a better place.
